Vault Comics have had great success with their ‘Vault Vintage‘ cover program, homaging classic covers of the past in new comics of today. And before that their ‘Woman in Front‘ initiative too. Hence their announcement of another variant covers’ program, this time called ‘Pulp & Paint‘.
This new roll out takes its inspiration from the days of pulp magazines and novels and richly rendered painted front covers by the likes of Robert McGinnis.
Tim Daniels, EVP Branding and Design, had more to add to this official announcement:
There’s been a resurgence of interest in richly rendered imagery stoked by alternative movie posters from Mondo and Bottleneck, publishers like Hard Case Crime (Titan Comics), or deep dive studies of the form such as Paperbacks From Hell by Grady Hendrix. Readers and collectors have shown a real desire for something authentic and striking in the age of digital perfection.
In charge of covers will be Nathan Gooden, who brought the vault Vintage covers to life and to light. Here’s what he had to say:
Once Adrian suggested Pulp & Paint I couldn’t resist the opportunity to get back to my roots. My love for Sci-Fi & Fantasy can be traced back to one moment: the time I held my first Frank Frazetta cover. Our Vault Vintage initiative started us down this road, but Pulp & Paint gives me and Tim the chance to fully explore what inspired our careers in comics.
Look out for further cover announcement over the next few months and across 2020, from Vault Comics. Never one to rest on their laurels.
